FC Dallas Affiliate Partner Lyons & Simmons, LLP is a trial boutique representing clients in wrongful death, personal injury, products liability and complex “bet-the-company” business litigation matters across the country.

They are one of just three firms nationwide selected as finalists in the area of catastrophic injury law. Finalists are selected based on exemplary success on behalf of plaintiffs over the past year and will be honored during a July 13 awards ceremony in New York. The full list of finalists is available at https://www.event.law.com/nationallawjournal-etl/3620719.

“It is a tremendous honor just to be named alongside two of the finest plaintiff’s firms in the country,” said Michael Lyons, co-founder of the Dallas-based trial boutique. “We are so grateful for this recognition because of what it recognizes. Our team is constantly pushing to bring hope and closure to people who need it most and to promote and incentivize change that will save lives.”

The selection was based on Lyons & Simmons’ record of success in high-profile jury verdicts and settlements over the past year. This work was highlighted by the December 2022 medical negligence verdict that led to an eight-figure verdict for a woman left a paraplegic due to significant delays in diagnosing and treating an epidural hemorrhage. The Lyons & Simmons trial team pointed to prevalent systemic failures to follow hospital policies, which led to catastrophic delays in treatment.

“They have virtually destroyed health care liability law in Texas, making it nearly impossible for people who have been killed or severely injured by medical negligence to even gain access to the courthouse,” said co-founder Chris Simmons “We took this case not because it was an easy case, but because it was an exceedingly tough case and because our client’s life depended on it.”

The case, Adams v. Texas Hospital Partners Flower Mound, was streamed live by Courtroom View Network and was among CVN’s Top 10 “Most Impressive Plaintiffs Verdicts of 2022” in large part because of the difficult standard of proof for emergency medical care cases in Texas.

In addition to the Adams jury win, Lyons & Simmons settled several significant cases in 2022 involving workplace and aviation-related accidents and fatalities. The firm also currently represents one of the victims of the 2021 Astroworld Festival in Houston mass casualty tragedy and serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in the consolidated multidistrict litigation. Recently, Michael Lyons was part of a trial team that obtained an $860 million verdict in Dallas County involving a tower crane collapse that tragically killed a young Dallas woman.

This is the second time in the past three years Lyons & Simmons has been named an Elite Trial Lawyers finalist. The firm was one of five finalists in 2021 in the business torts category based on its work on behalf of former head football coach David Beaty, who was mired in a high-profile lawsuit involving his contract with the University of Kansas Athletics.
