NRG Global Power energised by Middlesbrough FC Business Partnership

International engineering company showcases local roots through football sponsorship

NRG Global Power has celebrated its North East roots by becoming a Middlesbrough FC Business Partner. Based in Stockton-on-Tees, through their association with the club, the engineering service company see their branding displayed to thousands of Boro fans throughout The Riverside during every Middlesbrough home game.

The business was formed in 2002 and centres around the building, upgrading, and operating of power plants. With most of the company’s work stemming from overseas, demonstrated by long-term projects in both Pakistan and Bangladesh, NRG Global have additional offices in the Netherlands and Australia. Managing Director David Wilson explained why the international business wanted to become associated with its local Football Club:

“One of the main reasons that becoming a Middlesbrough FC Business Partner appealed to the business is because a high percentage of our work is done overseas. We have a great reputation but don’t tend to do too much work locally. The partnership allows us to show people that we are based in the North East and that we are proud to be part of the community.

“It’s about brand awareness really, more so within the local area, with the possible benefit of spotting our logo on tv whenever Boro play on TV. We’re a local company, based in the North East, who have projects all around the world. The association with the Football Club helps us to build those relationships with local people.”

The Middlesbrough FC Business Partner Programme stems from a relationship between Eleven Sports Media and the Football Club. As a Business Partner, NRG Global see their company branding displayed on both pitch- and crowd-facing LED boards, as well as featuring on StadiumTV and StatTV screens, located within the concourses.

In addition to engaging with tens of thousands of Boro fans throughout every home game, NRG Global reach an international audience through their sponsorship of StatTracker social media content, which is shared to the club’s official social channels.

Moreover, the business is invited to exclusive partner events, which have included Q&A evenings with former Boro players and a stadium tour. These events give partners, such as NRG Global, an opportunity to network and build relationships with like-minded local companies. The company are also able to showcase their association with the Football Club on their website and email signatures, through the use of the Middlesbrough Business Partner logo. David Wilson outlined the positive effect that the football sponsorship has had on the business:

“We’ve been to the partner events and met the other businesses involved in the partnership. We’ve also been able to use our hospitality tickets to take both staff and clients to games. The clients have enjoyed the experience and it’s helped to build upon those relationships.”

“Most of the people we employ are from the North East, so as a business we’d like to earn more local work, combined with our projects in other countries. A lot of our guys are Boro fans. Every time anyone in the business goes to a Middlesbrough game, I think we spend more time looking out for our branding than watching the game!”
